I go for a morning walk every day without fail. And I try to cover new locations in every walk. So one day I started my walk on a freeway. It was early morning with no traffic. I had a leisure walk looking at commercial boards beside the freeway. Meanwhile, I came across a commercial which made me think about it. It was a Facebook promotional ad with bold words “LIVE WHAT YOU LOVE” I thought I heard that before. Is it just a passive voice of “LOVE YOUR LIFE”? Brilliant marketing.

I started to ask myself do I love life? To know the answer I should break the question as How to love something? and what is life?

Knowing how to love was very easy. I just need to see around. I saw people who love their cars. How they keep it? They use it preciously and are obsessive about it. Next, I see people love their wife or husband and they are obsessed with each other. So, it’s clear If I want to love life, I need to keep it preciously and be obsessive about it. Now a harder question, what is life?

The first thing I did was to go and search for an answer from my grandparents. The obvious reason was they experienced life more than I did. So, what is life grandpa or grandma?

The first answer that I got was, a very famous one, Life is happiness. This answer will mean that one who is happy is living and others are not. It doesn’t make sense.

The second answer was, Life is all about love. Does that mean those who don’t love are not living? I see many people who never love anyone or are self-centred but are still living. So, I was not satisfied.

The third answer was from a religious one. Life is to have peace. Are ones without peace not living?

I realized that people near to me could not provide a satisfactory answer. So I need to search somewhere else.

My first preference was Google. It happened to be last. I search for the meaning of life. I got many definitions based on biology like “life is to be an organic matter which can grow”. Yes, those definitions are correct but they don’t fit in the discussion here. But one definition caught my eye. Thus I found my answer.

Google definition of life

‘The period between birth and death of a living thing, especially of a human being’. Can you guess another name for the same? You are right. TIME!!

TIME

It makes sense now. If you have time you have a life. If you don’t, you are dead. So, if we want to love our life, what should we do? Use our time preciously and be obsessive about it.

So, are you loving our life? A better question should be are you using your time preciously?

If you wake up every morning to check your feed on Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp and see what other people are doing with their time, are you loving your life?

If you are stuck on a job where you don’t want to spend your time but you care more about society and your family, are you loving your life?

If you watched a movie just because your friends are compelling you to go for the same, are you loving your life?

If society is driving you to use your time, You need to get alert. Is it better to take steps now or to regret at the last hour of your last day that you lived ‘society’s life’ vs ‘your life’?

So next time when you land up on Facebook after a long time and your friend starts to complain “why were you offline for days?”. Reply simply “I was loving my life”
